In an emergency, keep what you say simple and straightforward. As professionals involved in disaster recovery and business continuity, we know that details matter, and effective communications skills matter as well. Think KISS – Keep It Simple, Stupid.

Plan writers should always keep in mind that others may be called upon to implement their plans. Of course, that’s easier said than done, because few of us could readily give step-by-step instructions to others on how to do our jobs. When people are asked to reconstruct the events of their day, they often leave out many of the details that make up that day. This is our human nature. We don’t think in minute-to-minute details.
