Lambda, AWS’ server-less compute service, launched at AWS re:Invent 2014, is popping up everywhere and revolutionizing how applications are architected.

AWS Lambda

Learn more about AWS Lambda and other hot topics on our CTO Labs blog.

Major League Baseball uses it to capture and analyze every play in the ballpark, and it provides them with real-time analytics on every strike, ball and slide. Netflix uses Lambda to run its security rules, ensuring new instances are compliant. If Lambda identifies an instance that is out of compliance, it sends an alarm and can even trigger the shutdown of the offending instance. Nordstrom uses Lambda to run their new customer recommendation engine.

Coming soon: More about Lambda

Here at Sungard Availability Services | Labs, our development environment runs in AWS and we readily incorporate Lambda into our work. Over the next few weeks, we are going to share a few thought pieces with you, as well as a couple of hands-on demos from our Labs architects, focused on Lambda. For example:

Scott Moore will walk you through how to set up your own URL shortening service.

Abay Radhakrishnan will highlight the impact and benefits of Lambda in the big data space, specifically Hadoop, along with a comparison of resources and cost factors.

Alex Ough will explain how he used Lambda to create our open sourced AWS account management microservices.

Kevin McGrath will teach you how to create, update and delete custom and third-party resources with Lambda and AWS CloudFormation.

Stay tuned to the CTO Labs blog.
